Doom's Day

So, I could have gone without today. In sum...

The Broncos lost the AFC championship.

The Panthers lost the NFC championship.

The Red Sox are about to pull a rather odd move.

While bad things tend to happen when Johnny Walker Lindh is your quarterback, I was hoping at least one of my two favorite NFL teams would make it to the Super Bowl. I guess this what I get for wondering who I would pull for in a dream/nightmare championship game of Denver and Carolina.

As for the Red Sox, you would think the Return of the Jew would lead to better moves than this. Trading Marte and Mota for Coco Crisp (who for all intents and purposes is a fine player and fills a position of great need) isn't what bothers me. You have to dig a bit deeper to get to the head scratchin' part. From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
"The Indians and Boston, according to a major league source, are considering a six-player trade that would send Crisp and two low-level minor leaguers to Boston for third base prospect Andy Marte, Mota and another a minor league pitcher. The Indians would then trade Mota to Philadelphia for outfielder Jason Michaels."
You see, Jason Michaels is just as good as Crisp, if not better. So if this article is accurate, why on earth wouldn't the Sox just trade Mota for Michaels themselves, and keep super prospect Marte? It makes literally no strategic sense, unless Cleveland is sending us some pretty sweet prospects in return.

I'm gonna get paid to think this crap up one day. Just you wait.
