we blew it

sorry for the unsubstantive blogging, i've got a lot of work and even more on my mind. however, what happened tonight can pretty well be summoned up with my title. if we wanted to get into the tourney, we really needed to win this game. now i think we'll need a very strong run in charlotte, even if we win out the rest of the regular season.

hi!

I've finally come down from my high of toppling Duke (I may or may not have rolled my apartment) and am now capable of expressing feelings and thoughts in a way decipherable to other humans.

Maybe the sweetest part of the Duke win is that 50 of our 86 points were scored by Teague and Johnson - two freshmen. Freshmen. Leading the way in beating #2 team in the nation, undefeated in previous ACC play. Wow. With AT&T coming aboard next season, Wake may be scary good in the very near future. SCARY GOOD.

I leave you with some of my favorite pictures from The Game.

they're here

Pitchers, catchers, and Indiana Jones.

Bigger version.

Exit questions: was the music in the first part also used in the Lord of the Rings? It sounded very familiar. And was that the 9906753 warehouse?

P.S. - Happy SAD!

shocking endorsement of the day!

Eisenhower's granddaughter is backing Obama! Wow! Hey, I'm the great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandnephew of a U.S. Congressman, when do I get my own op-ed piece and appearance on Fox News?

--------

P.S. Please note how my great-great, etc. uncle was a member of the Anti-Administration Party, which opposed the policies of George Washington, and voted against ratifying the Constitution (the Lockes weren't big fans of any federal government). I guess this makes my family's legacy that of keeping in check both our great heroes and great accomplishments.

You're welcome, America!

re: conan without the writers

As someone who has watched Late Night almost every weeknight for the past seven years, I'm pretty well positioned to remark on how he's been doing in contrast to his usual, with-writers show. To be frank, the strike shows aren't as good.

They're better.

This strike has ironically re-invigorated the show and given it a new breath of life. Over time, the same "Bush is dumb, Clinton sleeps around, Rosie is fat, Trump fires people, OJ murders people" monologue loses its edge. Now that Conan has to work around not being able to do his usual monologue at the top of the show, he's come up with some incredible and very entertaining ideas. He's climbed up to the studio catwalk, installed a zip line in the studio (once using it to save Lincoln from being assassinated), put on a German-inspired laser light show, he took over directing duties, did an unbelievably hilarious interview with one his producers (I love the idea of there being someone who unintentionally puts Conan in laughing fits), put his desk behind the audience, learned he has a "floppy heart" from the NBC doctor, demonstrated his range by performing some old timey country bluegrass with the band, gave an audience member a studio tour which quickly evolved to them both running all over the NBC building, and last night he had an MIT professor on to help him shatter his "ring spin" record with an incredible 51 second spin (trust me, it was a lot funnier than it sounds).

All in all, he's been forced to use more remotes and wacky ideas, which has always been his specialty. While the strike may cost my favorite show a true series finale, at least its brought out the best in Late Night. Barvo, Conan, bravo.

Update: My timing is impeccable.
